Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Site

Fall 2004, Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Site

The Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Site includes several types of native plants which provide food and shelter for various wildlife species. The site is located behind the Bertina A. Nick Memorial Garden and is adjacent to the forested slope leading down to College Creek, and it acts as an extended corridor for many species to venture further up the slope.

The Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Site includes Atlantic white cedar trees, a rare species being reintroduced in this area. It also contains another interesting conifer, the bald cypress tree, which is one of the few deciduous conifers. (It loses its needles in the fall and re-grows them in spring.) In addition, we are developing a brush pile in this location to enhance the sheltered habitat for small animals.
